What's New in Parents for Public Education?
Mrs. Downing: Teacher Kid Camp is Valuable for my Family and Career
Having access to the Teacher Kid Camp provided by Parents for Public Education has been an incredible resource and support for me as a teacher in this district. The camp, which offers free childcare on Professional Development (PD) days when I am required to be at work but my children are not in school, has alleviated a major source of stress for me and many other working parents.
Mrs. King’s Reimbursement Story
You know that feeling when you chat with someone and can tell they’re an amazing teacher?
Early on, I got that sense from talking with Aly. We met in 2011 through our husbands and would talk shop over the years as we both began our careers teaching junior-high English in vastly different public school districts. I can’t remember a specific novel or little-known fact about teenagers we bonded over, but I remember a growing confidence, through informal conversations, that Aly loved what she did and did it extremely well.
Teacher Kid Camp is a Blessing
As a mom of five children in the district, the new free childcare program on professional development days has been a true blessing. It allows me to focus on curriculum, data analysis and lesson planning without worrying about my children. These work days are essential for creating engaging classrooms, but attending when my children are off can be a challenge. The support provided by this program allows me to be more present and effective in my work.
