Mrs. King’s Reimbursement Story

You know that feeling when you chat with someone and can tell they’re an amazing teacher?

Early on, I got that sense from talking with Aly. We met in 2011 through our husbands and would talk shop over the years as we both began our careers teaching junior-high English in vastly different public school districts. I can’t remember a specific novel or little-known fact about teenagers we bonded over, but I remember a growing confidence, through informal conversations, that Aly loved what she did and did it extremely well.

Teacher Kid Camp is a Blessing

As a mom of five children in the district, the new free childcare program on professional development days has been a true blessing. It allows me to focus on curriculum, data analysis and lesson planning without worrying about my children. These work days are essential for creating engaging classrooms, but attending when my children are off can be a challenge. The support provided by this program allows me to be more present and effective in my work.

Receiving a Docked Pay Reimbursement

I was privileged to receive a five-hundred-dollar reimbursement from Parents for Public Education. This generous gift was not only a financial relief but also a validation of the challenges that teachers face, especially those who are also parents. Last year, I used all of my allotted leave days to take care of my children when they were sick. As a result, I was docked pay, which placed an additional financial strain on my family. Receiving this grant was an incredible blessing, as it helped to offset some of that loss.
